Explosion Proof Scale

ATEX & IECEx Explosion-Proof Weighing Scales in Malaysia

If your weighing point sits inside a zone where flammable gas, vapour, or combustible dust can be present — a chemical storage bay, a grain or flour handling area, a solvent filling line — a standard scale is not just risky, it's the wrong equipment for the job. V&C Infinity Enterprise Sdn Bhd supplies PRECIA MOLEN's ATEX and IECEx-certified explosion-proof range for the Malaysian market: the WP1-HE-S weighing platform and the i40EX 2-21 IECEx indicator, built specifically for use inside classified hazardous zones.

Capacity range

WP1-HE-S platforms are available from 1.5 kg up to 300 kg depending on platform size, so the same Ex-rated line covers bench-level and floor-level weighing.

Ingress & impact protection

Stainless steel WP1-HE-S platform rated up to IP68/IP69K with IK08 impact protection; the i40EX 2-21 indicator is rated IP66 with IK07 shock resistance.

Ex zone certification

ATEX and IECEx marked for gas zones 1/2 and dust zones 21/22 (platform); the i40EX 2-21 indicator is rated for direct installation inside zone 21/22 dust and zone 2 gas areas.

Legal metrology class

Both units are Class III NAWI (Non-Automatic Weighing Instrument) rated, the class most industrial and trade platform scales are built to.

FAQ

What makes a scale "explosion-proof" versus a normal industrial scale?

An explosion-proof (ATEX/IECEx-rated) scale is built so it cannot become an ignition source in a classified hazardous zone — the load cell, wiring, and indicator are designed and certified to prevent sparks or excess surface heat even under fault conditions. A standard scale is not certified for this and should not be used inside a classified zone regardless of its IP rating.

Do I need both the platform and the indicator, or can I use my existing indicator?

The whole measuring chain inside the hazardous zone needs to be rated for that zone — pairing a certified platform with a non-certified indicator (or vice versa) defeats the purpose. V&C Infinity Enterprise Sdn Bhd can advise on matching the WP1-HE-S platform with the i40EX 2-21 indicator, or integrating the indicator with existing Ex-rated load cells.

Is an ATEX-certified scale automatically compliant for use in Malaysia?

ATEX and IECEx certify the equipment itself. Whether your site is a classified hazardous zone at all is a separate determination made under Malaysia's DOSH/Bomba requirements, not the Weights and Measures Act — so zone classification for your premises should be confirmed with the relevant authority or a competent person before equipment is selected.
